PTDC/FIL-FIL/116733/2010

Principal Researcher: Humberto Brito

This project focuses on theory of action and inquiry on the structures of intention and practical thought, combining it with philosophical debates about art, in what we might dub as 'action-theoretical aesthetics'.

In the recent years exciting new work on action and practical rationality has had a clear, rapidly increasing, impact on moral theory, metaethics, the philosophy of mind, and its bordering areas. By proposing to extend its scope to the philosophy of art, we aim to anticipate what the next decade in this area will bring. The project gathers leading specialists in the philosophy of art and in the philosophy of action, as well as younger (doctoral and post-doctoral) researchers, whose work in the past 3 years was specifically devoted to research in both areas.
